Immersive ambient from the Baltic coast
Following the recent release of Everything, in time - an immersive, long-form album of sublime tonal work by Ghostloop, I caught up with Christoph Vogel (AKA Ghostloop) from his home in the north of Germany by the Baltic coast and he talked about his use of a hardware modular system and how his approach to patching leads to work that exists for just a small moment in time.

"Field recordings play an important role my process. Environmental sounds — captured in everyday places or quiet moments — are woven into my compositions, grounding the synthetic elements in a sense of physical space and memory. More recently, modular synthesis has become a central part of my workflow. Using a small Eurorack system, I embrace chance, limitation, and generative techniques, allowing patches to evolve organically and often recording them only once before dismantling the setup.

This approach, I feel, results in music shaped as much by imperfection and unpredictability as by intention. Small fluctuations, unintended shifts, and fleeting moments are preserved rather than corrected, becoming part of the emotional character of each piece.
My music as Ghostloop, exists at the intersection of mood and texture. It is quiet but deliberate, focused on subtle changes over time and the emotional weight of sound itself — ambient music that moves slowly, listens closely, and leaves space for reflection."

Ghostloop is an ambient producer from northern Germany, based near the Baltic coast. His music blends moody, slowly unfolding atmospheres with subtle basslines and understated movement. While firmly rooted in ambient and experimental electronic music, his work carries a quiet sense of rhythm shaped by an early connection to UK bass culture from the late 1990s.
He has been active as a drum and bass DJ and producer since 1998, releasing vinyl on labels such as Basswerk and Santorin. During the same period, he also explored deep house and techno, with releases appearing on respected imprints including Freerange Records. Years spent immersed in club music, DJ culture, and sound system environments helped form a deep understanding of groove, space, and low-end — elements that continue to surface subtly in his ambient productions, even when beats are absent.

Under the Ghostloop alias, his focus shifted toward slower tempos and more introspective forms. He has released a growing body of ambient work on labels including Ambient Soundscapes, Chitra Records, Atlantea, and Perceptual Tapes. These releases emphasize texture, restraint, and atmosphere, often unfolding gradually and inviting close listening rather than immediate impact.
